Ginger is an awesome flowering plant. It is a herbaceous perennial. The ginger root is used as a herb and natural medicine.

It is both a very healthful tool to both us humans and our dogs.

The most well known benefit is its great for better digestion. It speeds up digestion and empty the stomach quicker. It relieves nausea and upset stomachs. Be careful not to have too much ginger though as it could make you feel nausea and even give heartburn so a little goes a long way.

The use of ginger dates back to 500 BC. It is used to flavor food but also an alternative form of medicine.

It has Gingerol, this bioactive compound in raw ginger boosts immunity with both antimicrobial and anti fungal properties. It contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. This combination improves coughs, lower fevers, fight of infections, lowers blood pressure , reduces pain, moves blood and is a powerful anti- inflammatory. Which is the reason l started using it on my dog Barkley. I believe in this day and age we could all benefit from anti-inflammatory help.

For women who suffer from PMS. When used the first 3 days of a cycle it helps with pain relief and the anti inflammatory helps relieve the bloat that is often common . Im sure it would help the female dogs in our life too.

The compounds of ginger are gingerol, shagaols, zingiberene and Zingerone along with teroenses and vitamins and minerals All this means a wide range of bio activities . antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-neuroinflammation. Recently the role of ginger is anticancer, chemotherapy reduced nausea and vomiting and tiredness .

It is a great improvement to the quality of life for ourselves and our dogs. I think sometimes medicines are so available for a range of things people forget to look at what the earth gave us to help.

An SR-MA study revealed ginger improved lipid profiles, insulin sensitivity and glycosylated hemoglobin of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It also helps arthritis.

Studies done on the efficiency of ginger in metabolic syndromes . One study on obesity- related cardiovascular risk, ginger was beneficial in lowering the risk. These included body fat, cholesterol , waist circumference .

Studies also examined respiratory function distress and asthma . Ginger reduced the duration of mechanical ventilation and length of stay in intensive care and improved asthmatic symptoms.( thanks to Nguyen Hoang Anh, Sun Jo Kim and Sung Won Kwon with MDPI nutrients)

Whatever you take ginger for its a very handy tool too have . Don't over do ginger and its suggested to not take it 2 weeks before an operation . This is also true of turmeric.

Dogs can have it in small quantities for antioxidants , anti inflammatory and healthy blood circulation. It moves the blood around the body better. In Ayurvedic Medicine it gives energy and warmth. It helps ease bloat in dogs and increases heart health . Give no more than a quarter to half to 1 teaspoon depending on the size of your dog. Start of slowly.

If your giving it to your dog or yourself in a tea . I give herbal decaf teas to my dog often. I also have ginger in my (no coffee for dogs ) coffee every morning .

By taking it early morning it helps the body end its over night fast and charges up the metabolism .

Personally l prefer fresh ginger you grate but organic powered ginger is good too .
