Nutrition is what is needed to feed, for the body to get the vital nutrients for the body to grow, repair and function every cell, every organ, and
from blood to fur to nails to eyes l would even say to feeling good and lively. It is also energy for the animal/human , fat stores and avoiding malnutrition. it's pretty important.
This is why whatever you' re feeding your dog and self, you need to consider calories. Think about it you feed a cup or two or a 80,10,10 diet to the same type of dog one sits on a couch most of the day one goes on long hikes and is active . Do they need the same food and amount of food no. Think about the calorie content. My dog will always eat more in winter why, he burns up slightly more calories to stay warm same as us. In a hot summer he might only eat half the amount. We have got to a place where we feed what is on the packet. We believe whatever is told to us. We know with our own diets one year something is a top treading must have, next year suddenly it wasn't good for us as once thought. Then we need to think about or have an idea of how many calories are in the food. The type of protein feeding lamb is a lot different to feeding turkey. lamb is a fatty meat and will have more calories. That is also why it is important to feed varied proteins. Always always like yourself give them as a diverse diet as possible. l would say a good diet has foods that are anti inflammatory, watch for high processed high heat foods these contain AGEs which contribute to oxidized stress which contributes to diseases. Foods with burnt or crispy are high in AGEs and included prebiotibics and probiotics using different foods with different strains. Feeding the same probiotic every day does no help in the end. the anti aging nutrients, antioxidants, polyphenols and phytonutrients. The right fats omega 3s. Fiber and a tiny touch of natural salt if you food doesn't contain any.If you feed kibble or any high processed foods try and get one with natural supplements many/most human made supplements aren't very bio-digestible and simple a waste of money.
Know your dog what stage they are at age, l mean like us you can have a young old dog and an old young dog, feed for environment, energy and health. If organic is hard to find try and buy local and seasonal. There is a reason certain plants and fruits grow at certain times in different countries. Support local farmers and look out for good soil. Don't be afraid to use herbs and wild plants like dandelion ( which is one of the top nurtra dense plants in the word.) Give small fish, mussels, eggs all very nutritionally dense foods. Start off small steps and introduce more over time. Every living thing deserves the best from the world. This includes water and air. Start with yourself and share a little of what is safe with your dogs/pets adding in some herbs or a few blueberries and my favorite mushrooms. A lot to think about and yet easy to do once you start.
